My
Poker Goals For Year 2019
First
week of the January is gone....and bit more.
I'm
sure some of You, if not most, made Big Plans and Poker- related
Goals for Year 2019. If You hit this target then Great, but what if
You fall short... Don't start Blame Yourself for something
You are not entirely responsible for.
Goal
setting isn't for everyone, but if You do be sure You goals are
challenging and have deadline stamped on them. For sure You
must know where you want to go, and be pretty specific about it.
Goals are pure fantasy unless you have a specific plan to achieve them - Stephen Covey.
What ever You are deciding - do Have a Big Plan and break it into smaller plans, or Opposite - Have a small Plan and let it grow to Big Plan - it really does not matter. Some people Dream Big, some of us Dream small. Maybe You are the person who is ''watching'' Your Dreams at the night from colour TV, maybe from Monochrome one. Mostly think about how realistic it is. Maybe, just maybe, You will need more time than You think, for the things You plan to do.
If you plan is win Big at the Cash Games, then take bit time off and do You Math. Have reality check – How many hours You are able to play per day/week, how many hands You are able to play per hour, what is You Winning Rate per hundred hands etc.?
Example: 200 hands per hour – two hours per day on 4 tables at First level (0.01/0.02) equals 800 hands per day/ 5 days per week = 4000 hands per week. Raffly 16 000 hands per month. If You WR is 3bb/100, then You will win 48 dollars on this month. Mostly it is recommended to have at least 40 Buy ins per Level if You are already winning player. Let say: You started with 80 dollars at the Level one. To move up for next Level You will need $200 at least. $80 (what You had) + $48 (month winnings) = $128,+ $48 (next month) = $176 + $24 (half month winnings) = $200. Working with win rate 3/100, 5 days (2 hours with 4 tables every time) per week will take two and half month to move up next level.
So, the goal You set for Yourself may require a lot of effort to reach, and us humans are infamous for our dislike of effort – we are lazy by nature. Unexpected things always occur too - Some family event, happenings at work or/and Your personal life – don't forget about simple things like being bored with the game for a period of time or TILT.
For the moments like those You will need set some goals that will be reached soon. It is easier to work toward such Goal. Getting our rewards quickly is powerful motivator. Maybe it is smart thing to set up milestones after every certain amount? By setting smaller targets to hit throughout the year, you give yourself a better chance to enjoy a few successes along the way . Reaching a milestone should be a time for a small celebration of some kind. Nice – Right? Have a fancy dinner or take trip somewhere You like to go. Buy something nice for You loved ones or for Yourself. Whatever pleases You - will work. Of course, to make every dollar a milestone don't make much sense. Setting a pointless target that you don't have to work hard is counter-productive.
Think also about an other kind of motivations....One simple example is a bankroll tracking graph - but to use it You have to be already winning player. If You are using Holdem Manager or any other tracking program it is very easy to look at. You can check graph per session, per week, per month or year. It is not very hard to make some simple Excel spreadsheet by Yourself. There are also some bankroll management spreadsheets around internet what You can download for free.
I will Start this Year Poker Goals with simple and hopefully with Breakthrough Goal for me:
BECOME A BREAK EVEN PLAYER...
...and
to reach it, I will need make most profitable decisions.in
game when I am in it. Every single poor decision I make will cost me
money in the long run So, I will need mostly time to
study and figure out my own leaks in play. With all My
planning over Years to play certain amount hands and certain amount
time per day/week/month/year and earn a lots of money - reality is –
I am not there yet with Cash Game. Probably I made money-related
goals because they are easy to measure. It will be my excuse for now.
We all like money – no doubt about that.
My
second Goal for this year:
CONTROL
MY EMOTIONS...
...at
least recognize when I am losing control. If
I can’t do it, I can’t be a long term winning poker player. Most
of us can’t make the right plays when we’re on tilt – including
me.
MY
PROMISE FOR THIS YEAR IS :
- Play when I am 100% up for the challenge
- Play without distractions
- Learn the game
I
think, The way is important equally with results and How or
are We full fill Our Dreams. How did We start – walking or flying
really doesn't matter. Others around Us will notice mostly after We
are on finish line or already finished. Maybe very some will
recognize Us on the road – just because, everybody are busy with
their own trip or planning their trip.
Good
Luck Everybody!!!!
Never give up, for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn -
Harriet Beecher Stowe
